Milano Unita

In light of recent immigrant disorders and disturbances in peace in MIlan and other regions in Italy; our Concept was to highlight the importance of unity and harmony among the different cultures in Milan. To change the attitude of people towards different nationalities and remind them that the union of people of different countries enriched the city and is an important part of the fact that Milan is an important global city.

The project idea was to put cameras in leading immigrant communities in Milan, to capture daily life in the streets and project these images in the Galleria Vittoria Emmanuale II.

For this 3 major immigrant communities in Milan were identified - via Paolo Sarpi, via Padova and via Chiesa Rossa.

A user interactive camera is placed in a busy part of the road to get the best view of the street. A person takes a picture of himself by help of the interactive screen of the camera. After the image is taken, it is displayed in the Galleria. If no one is takes a picture for more than 10 minutes, a live video of the street is displayed in the Galleria.

The display is a 3-facet prism, 6 meters wide and 9 feet high, hung in the center of the Galleria. The shape of the display is derived from the concept of Trinity or Unity, which is symbolized by a triangle.

The reason for the selection of the Galleria which is known as "the living room of Milan" for the display is because it is a common meeting place of the people of Milan. And also because it is a very important tourist attraction and therefore this installation will help to improve the image of Milan as a global city.
